Of a truth, it is only by a very considerable store of medicines accurately known in respect of these their pure modes of action in altering the health of man, that we can be placed in a position to discover a homoeopathic remedy, a suitable artificial (curative) morbific analogue for each of the infinitely numerous morbid states in nature, for every malady in the world-106. In the meantime, even now - thanks to the truthful character of the symptoms, and to the abundance of disease elements which every one of the powerful medicinal substances has already shown in its action on the healthy body - but few disease remain, for which a tolerably suitable homoeopathic remedy may not be met with among those now proved as to their pure action-107 which, without much disturbance, restores health in a gentle, sure and permanent manner - infinitely more surely and safely than can be effected by all the general and special therapeutics of the old allopathic medical art with its unknown composite remedies, which do but alter and aggravate but cannot cure chronic diseases, and rather retard than promote recovery from acute diseases and frequently endanger life.

 

Foot Note-106:  At first, about forty years ago, I was the only person who made the provings of the pure powers of medicines the most important of his occupations. Since then I have been assisted in this by some young men, who instituted experiments on themselves, and whose observations I have critically revised. Following these some genuine work of this kind was done by a few others. But what shall we not be able to effect in the way of curing in the whole extent of the infinitely large domain of disease, when numbers of accurate and trustworthy observers shall have rendered their services in enriching this, the only true materia medica, by careful experiments on themselves! The healing art will then come near the mathematical sciences in certainty.

உண்மையாகவே,  மனிதனின் ஆரோக்கியத்தில்   மாற்றங்களை  ஏற்படுத்தும் மருந்துகளின் தூய செயல்பாட்டினை   அறிந்திருக்கும் போது மட்டுமே , நம்மிடையே இருக்கும் மிகவும் போதுமான அளவிலான மருந்துக் களஞ்சியத்திலிருந்து ஒரு ஹோமியோபதி மருந்தை கண்டுபிடிக்கும் நிலையில் நாம் இருக்க முடியும். இந்த மருந்து இயற்கையின் ஒவ்வொரு எல்லையற்ற எண்ணிலடங்கா நோய்க்கூறுகளுக்கும்  , உலகில் உள்ள ஒவ்வொரு நோய்க்கும்-106 ஏற்ற ஒரு சரியான செயற்கையான ( நலம் தரக்கூடிய) நோய்க்கூறுகளை கொண்டதாக இருக்கும்.  இதற்கிடையில், இப்போது கூட - அறிகுறிகளின் உண்மையான  இயல்புகளுக்கும் , ஏராளமான நோய்க்கூறுகளுக்கும்   மற்றும்  ஆற்றல் வாய்ந்த  மருந்துப் பொருட்கள் ஒவ்வொன்றும் ஆரோக்கியமான உடலில் அதனுடைய செயல்பாட்டினை  ஏற்கனவே காண்பித்திருப்பதற்கும் நன்றி.  இப்பொழுது நிரூபணம் செய்யப்பட்ட மருந்துகளின் தூய செயல்பாடு-107 மிகவும் தொந்தரவு இல்லாமல், ஆரோக்கியத்தை ஒரு மென்மையான, உறுதியான மற்றும் நிரந்தரமான  முறையில் மீட்டெடுக்கிறது , ஆனால் சில நோய்கள் எஞ்சியுள்ளன, - எஞ்சியிருக்கின்ற சில நோய்களுக்காக நாம் தேர்ந்தெடுத்த பொறுக்கத்தக்க , பொருத்தமான ஹோமியோபதி மருந்துகளில் இத்தகைய செயல்பாடு இல்லாமல் இருந்திருக்கலாம். பழைய அலோபதி ( ஆங்கில )  மருத்துவக்கலையில், அறிந்திராத கலப்பு மருந்துக்கலவைகளின் மூலம் பொதுவான மற்றும் விசேஷ நோய்தீர்க்கும் வகையில்  மிகவும் நிச்சயமாக பாதுகாப்பாக ஆரோக்கியத்தை மீட்டெடுக்க காலவரம்பின்றி மருந்தளிக்கிறார்கள்  . அது நோயை மாற்றவும் அதிகரிக்கவும் செய்யும் , ஆனால் அம்மருந்துகளால் நீண்டகால நோய்களை நலமாக்க முடியாது ; மற்றும் தீவிர நோய்களிலிருந்து ஆரோக்கியத்தை மீட்டெடுப்பதற்குப் பதிலாக , மீண்டும் உருவாக்கி அடிக்கடி உயிருக்கு ஆபத்தை விளைவிக்கிறது .

முதலில், சுமார் நாற்பது ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு, மருத்துவரின் மிக முக்கியமான பணியான,  மருந்துகளின் தூய ஆற்றலை நிரூபணம் செய்வதற்கு   நான் ஒருவன் மட்டுமே இருந்தேன் ,  அதன்பின்பு இந்தப்பணியில்  எனக்கு சில இளைஞர்கள் உதவி செய்தனர், அவர்கள்தங்களுக்குத்  தாங்களே சோதனைகளை மேற்கொண்டனர், மற்றும் அவர்களுடைய கண்டுபிடிப்புகளை நான் விமர்சன ரீதியாக திருத்தியுள்ளேன். இவற்றைத் தொடர்ந்து இந்த வகையில்  சில நேர்மையான  பணிகளை  இன்னும் சிலரால் செய்யப்பட்டன. ஆனால்,   எண்ணற்ற துல்லிதமான மற்றும் நம்பகமான பரிசோதனையாளர்கள்  , இந்த மருந்து நிரூபணத்தை வளப்படுத்துவதில் தங்கள் சேவைகளை வழங்கியிருக்கும் போது, தங்களைத் தாங்களே  கவனமாக பரிசோதனைக்கு உட்படுத்திக் கொள்ளுவதன்  மூலம் உருவான  உண்மையான மருந்தியல் களஞ்சியம் இருக்கும் போது   , எல்லையற்ற பெரிய அளவிலான நோய்களை  முழு அளவிலும் குணப்படுத்தும் வழியில் நாம் செய்ய இயலாதது தான் என்ன ? இதன்  மூலம் நலமாக்கும்  கலை உறுதியாக  கணித அறிவியலுக்கு அருகில் வரும்.

From such a materia medica everything that is conjectural, all that is mere assertion or imaginary should be strictly excluded; everything should be the pure language of nature carefully and honestly interrogated.

அத்தகைய ஒரு மருந்தியல் களஞ்சியத்திலிருந்து  , ஊகத்துக்கிடமான  எல்லாவற்றையும், வெறும் வலியுறுத்தல் அல்லது கற்பனையான  அனைத்தையும்  கண்டிப்பாக விலக்கப்பட வேண்டும்; அனைத்தும்  இயற்கையின் தூய மொழியில்  , கவனமாகவும் நேர்மையாகவும் வினவப்பட்டதாக இருக்க  வேண்டும் .

§ 143-145. Only from such investigations of the pure effects of medicines on healthy persons can a real materia medica be formed.

If we have thus tested on the healthy individual a considerable number of simple medicines and carefully and faithfully registered all the disease elements and symptoms they are capable of developing as artificial disease-producers, then only have we a true materia medica - a collection of real, pure, reliable-105 modes of action of simple medicinal substances, a volume of the book of nature, wherein is recorded a considerable array of the peculiar changes of the health and symptoms ascertained to belong to each of the powerful medicines, as they were revealed to the attention of the observer, in which the likeness of the (homoeopathic) disease elements of many natural diseases to be hereafter cured by them are present, which, in a word, contain artificial morbid states, that furnish for the similar natural morbid states the only true, homoeopathic, that is to say, specific, therapeutic instruments for effecting their certain and permanent cure.

Foot Note-105:          Latterly it has been the habit to entrust the proving of medicines to unknown persons at a distance, who were paid for their work, and the formation so obtained was printed. But by so doing, the work which is of all others the most important, which is to form the basis of the only true healing art, and which demands the greatest moral certainty and trustworthiness seems to me, I regret to say, to become doubtful and uncertain in its results and to lose all value.

 

§ 143-145. ஆரோக்கியமான மனிதர்கள் மீது மேற்கொள்ளப்படும் பரிசோதனைகளின் மூலம் கிடைக்கும் மருந்தின் தூய்மையான விளைவுகளிலிருந்தே ஒரு   உண்மையான மருந்தியல் களஞ்சியம்  உருவாக்க முடியும்.

இவ்வாறாக ஒரு ஆரோக்கியமான மனிதரின் மீது எளிய மருந்துகளை கணிசமான எண்ணிக்கையில் பரிசோதனை செய்யும் போதும், மற்றும்  அந்த மருந்துக்கே உரிய செயற்கை நோய்களை உருவாக்கும் திறனையும்   மற்றும்  அனைத்து நோய் கூறுகளையும் அறிகுறிகளையும் கவனமாகவும் நேர்மையாகவும்  பதிவு செய்யும் போதும் மட்டும் தான் நம்மால் ஒரு உண்மையான,  தூய , நம்பத் தகுந்த மருந்தியல் களஞ்சியத்தைப் பெற முடியும்  - இந்த மருந்தியல் களஞ்சியம்  எளிய மருந்துப்  பொருட்களின் உண்மையான , தூய்மையான, நம்பத் தகுந்த  -105  தொகுப்பாக இருக்க வேண்டும் , இந்த தொகுப்பு என்பது , ஆரோக்கியத்தில் ஏற்படும் விசித்திரமான மாற்றங்களையும் , ஒவ்வொரு ஆற்றல் வாய்ந்த மருந்துகளுக்கே உரிய, அந்த மருந்துகளின் மூலம்  பெறப்பட்ட அறிகுறிகளையும் போதுமான அளவிற்கு பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டதாக இருக்க வேண்டும். ஏனென்றால் அவைகள் அனைத்தும் பரிசோதகரின் கவனத்திற்கு கொணரப்பட்டதாகும் , இதில் இனிமேல் நலப்படுத்த  வேண்டிய பல இயற்கை நோய்க்கூறுகளை   ஒத்துள்ள நோய்களையும் (ஹோமியோபதி முறைப்படி  )  உள்ளடக்கியதாக இருக்க வேண்டும். சுருக்கமாக கூறுவதாக இருந்தால்   ,  செயற்கை நோயுற்ற நிலைகளையும் ,  அதே போன்ற இயற்கை நோயுற்ற நிலைகளையும்   அது  கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும் ,  அதாவது, உண்மையான, விசேஷமான, உறுதியான மற்றும் ,  நிரந்தரமான  நலத்தைத் தரக்கூடிய  ஹோமியோபதி சிகிச்சை முறைகளைக் கொண்டதாக இருக்க வேண்டும் .

பின்னர் , அறிமுகமில்லாத , தொழில்ரீதியாக ஊதியம்  அளிக்கப்பட்ட மனிதர்களிடம் மருந்துகளைப் பரிசோதிப்பது நாளடைவில் பழக்கமாகி விட்டது. அவர்களிடமிருந்து பெறப்பட்டத் தகவல்கள் அச்சேற்றப்பட்டன. ஆனால் அவ்வாறு செய்வதன் மூலம், மற்ற அனைத்திலும் மிக முக்கியமான, ஒரே உண்மையான,  நலப்படுத்தும்  கலையின் அடிப்படையை உருவாக்குவதும், மிகப் பெரிய தார்மீக உறுதியையும் நம்பகத்தன்மையையும் கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டியதுமான அந்த நூல்  அதன் விளைவுகளில் சந்தேகத்துக்கு உரியதாகவும் உறுதியற்றதாகவும் , அனைத்து மதிப்பையும் இழந்ததாகவும்  உருவாகி விடுகிறது என்று  நான் வருத்தத்துடன் கூறுகிறேன்.

§ 142. The investigation of the pure effects of medicines in diseases is difficult.

But how some symptoms-104 of the simple medicine employed for a curative purpose can be distinguished amongst the symptoms of the original malady, even in diseases, especially in those of a chronic character that usually remain unaltered, is a subject appertaining to the higher art of judgement, and must be left exclusively to masters in observation.

 

 

Foot Note-104:  Symptoms which, during the whole course of the disease, might have been observed only a long time previously, or never before, consequently new ones, belonging to the medicine.

ஆனால் ,  நோய் தீர்க்கும் நோக்கத்திற்காக ஒரு எளிய மருந்து பயன்படுத்தும் போது தோன்றும்  சில அறிகுறிகளை -104 , எவ்வாறு மூலமுதலான நோயின்  அறிகுறிகளிலிருந்து , குறிப்பாக எந்த மாற்றத்திற்கும் உட்படாத நாட்பட்ட நோய்களின் அறிகுறிகளிலிருந்து  எவ்வாறு வேறுபடுத்த முடியும் என்பதை பரிசோதனையை மேற்கொள்ளும் மருத்துவரின் முழுமையான முடிவுக்கே விட்டுவிட வேண்டும், அவருடைய தீர்ப்பே உயர்ந்த மருத்துவக் கலை ஆகும்.

நோயின் முழுப் போக்கின் போது , நீண்ட காலத்திற்கு முன்பாகவோ  , அல்லது இதற்கு முன்னர் எப்போதும் இல்லாமலோ , புதியதாக தோன்றிய விளைவுகளின் ஒன்றாகவோ  கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்ட அறிகுறிகள் அந்த  மருந்தைச் சேர்ந்தவை.
